The Job Hunt

Well I got that official “you suck” letter today. From the company I interviewed with when I was home at Christmas.

It’s ok. I was kind of expecting it. I would have done a kick-ass job in the position, but they either thought I would suck or I would be too good. Because yes, the job would have been a step down for me.

There was another possibility that I was kind of excited about.. but that company decided not to fill the open position because of the economy.

At this point, I’m applying for any and every administrative assistant/clerical position I can find. A big step down from what I’m doing now, but hey…  I’m definitely moving in 6 weeks, so I’ll take whatever I can get.

This will work out, right? I’m not being as stupid as my mom thinks I am by moving without a job already in place, am I?

  1. Its a scary time for everyone. No, it may not work out. But give yourself some credit: You are smart, educated, well spoken, caring you work hard in the things you do.

While the job thing is hard for everyone these days, chances are good that you will find something eventually. Im sure you have had decisions you made that were equally difficult (like maybe moving to denver in the first place?) in which you can look back and say “I’m glad I did that!”

You will be able to do that again.

  2. I’m confident it will work out, but possibly not in the way you expect. Things rarely work out the way we expect, but it’s only by an effort put forth on our part that they work out at all. You’re educated, experienced, and a beneficial part of any group you would join. The hardest part is getting everyone else to realize that.

You’re not being stupid, though. You’ve figured out where you want to be, and are trying to make it work. Stupid would be waiting until you get there before you start looking.
