I don't quite like his remark on "punished with a baby" as well. It just shows his contempt for babies, born legitimately or illegitimately. Well abortion may just be another issue of his, but i am just more worried for his policy on Israel. Arabs might just be too glad having him as the next president of US. But then again... Hillary isn't altogether a good choice either.

Nice blog btw!

I totally agree with you. But I also truly thin you guys are not even attempting to put yourselves in other peoples shoes. In particular young women, who may come from homes that are quite dissimilar to yours. These homes do not have a foundation on which the young woman can rely on, or do but only under circumstances in which the parents approve of the actions of their daughter.

I think you are lucky. You did not and will not have to experience anything like <a href="http://www.mothersmovement.org/books/reviews/07/went-away.html" rel="nofollow">these mothers</a>

A friend of mine got the "Well you're obviously old enough to have a kid, so you are old enough to live on your own" from her parents. She was 17. She is a smart girl, but never was able to get to college, and only recently able to find stability with a decent guy. He daughter is an adult, but they do not talk. Yes this is anecdotal, but just because you think a child is a treasure, and I think my child is the best thing that has ever happened to me, this is clearly not always the case for everyone. Her whole life was altered for the worse because she had a stupid crush on an idiotic guy in high school.

Amanda's right on. A child is a treasure, not a punnishment. Having one at an "inconvenient" time in your life is a consequence of a bad decision, but the child itself is absolutely a treasure.

No. A baby is NEVER a punishment. A consequence of a stupid mistake? Absolutely. But not a punishment.

Why? Is teenage pregnancy not punishment of a stupid mistake? Whether is god doing it, or simply a karmic return, thousands of womens lives are ruined from unwanted pregnancy, and those are just the ones that decided or were forced or coerced to keep them. Its not like abortion is an easy choice either.

Choosing to have a baby and then having one is clearly not punishment. But unwanted pregnancy is most definitely punishment that life gives you for doing something silly. Wouldn't you say that a car wreck is punishment for driving drunk?

[cue in Min to say that I think that children are like car wrecks, completely missing the point]
