I’ve Always Wanted to be a Writer…
Mar 30th, 2008 by Amanda
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a writer. Yes, I know. Blogging is writing! But I want to write a book. A novel. I want to hold the crisp clean pages of a novel that bears my name.
One thing that has always stopped me has been the knowledge that one of the major publishing houses in America would never publish anything I wrote. A defeatist attitude, perhaps, but it’s kept me from writing. Now, I’m rethinking it. I just might write the next great American novel because of these Book Publishers. I’ve never really been aware of self-publishing, but these guys have been in business for more than two decades. I looked through their book store, and a ton of people use them to get their voices heard.
Now, I just need a title…

lulu.com too.
I spoke with a publicist and his wife (who is an editor at a publishing company) that says if you do self-publish and you have the forum through which to sell at least 5000 copies, a major publisher would likely pick you up. You are a very popular blogger. I think you can do it!!
Yay, go, Mandi! I know you can do it. (Can I have an honorary mention somewhere in your book? J/K) I’d love to see you publish a novel.
Ms. Mandi,
Sorry to contact you through comments but I didn’t see a ‘contact me’ on your site. I saw that on the wordpress forums that you were having a problem some time ago with your new posts not showing. I see that it must have been resolved somehow since this is a recent post. I am having that problem and unable to fix it, and nothing in the wordpress forums is helping (there’s hardly any proposed solutions on this topic even though many have said that they’re having this problem). Can you email me and tell me what worked for you? I would be extremely grateful!
Thanks and God bless.
You know me, I love to write. I finished my first novel in high school and I have considered self-publishing, simply to have a few copies to give away to family and friends. I actually think I should try to publish for real, though.
Anyway, writing is all personal to me. If I never publish, as long as I’m allowed to write, I think I’ll be okay. Right now I’m handwriting a Greek-inspired fantasy story in pen in a beautiful leatherbound notebook. It will probably never see anything except the book it’s in, but that’s okay. When it’s done, I can say that I wrote it. That’s an amazing feeling.
Wishing all the best for you.
You know, my co-conspirator and I are still tossing around the idea of self-publishing. On one hand, we like the support a larger publisher would give us. On the other hand, we want to retain full creative control over our stuff (which is why we’re avoiding NG and Smithsonian). Hopefully we can find a happy medium…
