So true. In the US and similar countries, the effects of HIV/AIDS are hardly noticeable. But when I was in South Africa, the effects were visible and devastating. Orphaned toddlers would sift through the garbage at the dump all day, looking for a scrap of food. There were numbers of used hypodermic needles laying on the ground and these kids just walked right over them with bare feet.

Breaks your heart.
