Anna Rexia Costume

I’m speechless.

Want to dress up as an eating disorder for Halloween?  Well now you can!

From the website:

Skeleton Costume includes Knit Dress with Glitter Screenprint, Headband, Choker Neckband, Removable “Anna Rexia” Badge and Ribbon Tie Belt.

Both the choker and the belt look like tape measures.

This is sick.

Since when is an eating disorder sexy?

er love get a fucking Sense of humor…

Among my other costumes I think this is amazing…..
Who ever come up with this idea is a genius…..

I think it’s funny. I was discussing the costume with a group of students today, and most agreed it’s a good way to highlight and discuss eating disorders. So much of the time, we don’t want to talk about these unpleasant things. This is an awesome way to get people talking.

Who knows? I might just wear this on Oct 31!

I also think it’s funny in a way, but then again I’m the guy who once upon a time dressed up as an advanced case of syphilis for Halloween…

ITS A SKELETON COSTUME and honestly w/o the name tag no one would even consider it offensive.. so i am gunna wear it proudly and show people that it ok to make light of serious situations.. and after all it is only a halloween costume, so calm down

    Hi Amanda,

I’m a reporter at the Baltimore Sun, working on an article about this Halloween costume and the reaction it’s gotten from bloggers, eating disorder experts and others. I’d love to quote you! Would you be available to chat with me for just a few minutes today? I can be reached at tanika.white@baltsun.com or 410-468-2638.

    Thanks so much!!

I actually just bought this costume for a Halloween party I am attending this weekend. I think it’s pretty funny. Everyone needs to lighten up and realize that it’s not meant to be hurtful…it’s just a costume for Halloween. I have actually overcome and eating disorder, so if I can wear it and not feel offended then everyone should just calm down. There are way more important things going on in the world right now that require our attention. So lets stop freaking out about a costume and focus our attention on global warming or Darfur or the war!

So, are all of you people who say ‘lighten up’ the same ones who dress up as cancer patients, paraplegics, downs syndrome patients, and autistics? Because this is in the same spirit. Eating disorders kill people, just like guns and bombs and other FATAL diseases. How is something that slowly starves people to death over several years funny? Do you also think starving children in Darfur are funny? Because it’s really the same thing. You can’t possibly understand what people who suffer from this disease go through. It literally takes years to even begin recovering. Any person who has suffered from or knows someone who has suffered from an eating disorder (like myself) cannot possible find this funny, just like a person who knows someone who knows a veteran would not find a mutilated soldier costume funny.

    ps: Darfur is still funny
