Offensive?

I can’t decide if I’m really offended by this or not. It’s a hideous ad. It’s hideously powerful, if such a thing exists. But… I think it goes back to the debate everyone’s been having on this other post.
Is it okay for us to compare the value of a human life to the value of an animal’s?
I don’t think so. That’s why the ad is so offensive to me. It makes a powerful statement, and I completely understand the sentiment behind it. But I’m not okay with saying a baby seal’s life is just as valuable as a human baby.
Don’t sic PETA on me!

I dont see it as any worse than any of the pro-life ads I have seen.
Both are powerful enough to at least make you stop and think.
When I saw this ad (lol, i first typed ‘ass’ instead of ‘ad’), it quickly went into my “don’t be silly” file in my head.
The bigger question to me is: are we really still clubbing wild baby seals to death? why? I know we still eat veal, perhaps a cow version of this would be more relevant.
Even cows, though, are supposed to be killed ‘humanely’ (there is a huge question about if that is happening and also about how we treat them during their lives).
Dennis Leary had a great skit about the animals we eat. We dont eat cute ones.
I agree that the value of a baby seal’s life is nowhere near that of a baby human’s life. But I’d say that that’s a matter of degree and circumstance, not of kind.
