I’ve never really posted anything (positive or negative) about Mark Driscoll, despite his fairly chauvinist reputation among evangelicals. But then I saw this video, and I can’t hold back. I’m angry! As a woman, I’m angry. As a Christian, I’m angry.
He actually goes so far to say, “60% of all Christians today are female, and I’m glad that the ladies love Jesus, but if you want to win a war, you’ve got to get the men.”
Are you kidding me? He just discounted women as Christians. I am so not okay with that.

Show men that “Jesus was not a gay hippie in a dress”..that is an intersting statement.
I think you missed a bit of the point of the message, he is not dissing on women, he is making the statement that Men have got to take leadership position in their family and church if they are going to win the war for the family. Bottom line this is true.
He can be a little more tactful, but it takes a man leading his family to church to lead a generation. The men of our generation suck at it though.

Wow. it’s good to know that women are incapable of leading a generation. we should get rid of those women pastors ASAP. sucks to be a woman.

Carl – I didn’t miss the point of his message. But a good message with bad methodology or bad delivery is not really a good message.

I agree that men need to lead and, statistically speaking, if the husband is the first person to come to Jesus (as opposed to the wife or kids), it’s way more likely that the rest of the family will follow.
I did have a qualm with him saying that we are to teach our young men how to have sex with their wives at least once a day. I’m all for a healthy sex life, but for working people, that’s hardly possible. I think we need to teach our men how to woo their wives, and teach the wives to be more physical. (When each partner tries to “speak” the other partner’s “love language,” both feel fulfilled.)

Once again…I live in the dark ages and can’t watch the video.
Did he really say that?
If so, he is living in Fantasyland. The percentage of married people that have sex every day has got to be somewhere around .005%
That is an unrealistic and artificial expectation to teach anyone. Instead of resulting in happier marriages, it would result in people feeling completely unsatisfied with married life.

Terri – his exact words were…
“And once you get the men you must know what to do with them. They wanna know how to get married. They wanna know how to have sex with their wife at least once a day. They wanna know how to make money, buy a home, how to have children, how to pay their bills, how to father their sons, how to encourage and love and instruct their daughters. And so in addition to being the right kind of man, he must clarify the mission that he is on. And he must understand that his first priority is to gather men into, by God’s grace, force them to become the kind of men that is needed for God’s work and God’s kingdom so that the church can actually be established, those women can actually be loved, those children can actually be raised, and that that city will have an example of the difference that Jesus makes in the life of a man. So the bottom line is that the mission is to get the men because if you get the men then you win the war.”

Thank God for Mars Hill and Mark Driscoll. I’m Catholic so I don’t go too often, but it is so refreshing to see a church where men are so engaged and feel so welcome. This church wouldn’t be growing if so many young guys weren’t so completely sick of feminist politics and feminized churches. It’s like a sanctuary in Seattle’s man-hating culture, and if he takes it too far, too bad. So has the feminist movement. If you don’t like it, then leave them alone. Mars Hill has changed the lives of several good friends of mine who were never reached in church before. Nobody but Christ is perfect, including Mark Driscoll, but this standard of perfection is no reason to protest something which has done so much good. If it offends you, you have plenty of other great churches to go to.

He is by no means being sexist…he is being Biblical. If anything Drical is the leats sexist person I have heard…about loving your wife and treating her as she is to be treated.

You might get a kick out of this…. it’s along these same lines…
