I never knew that Solomon had two names. David and Bathsheba named their son Solomon, but because the Lord loved him, he sent word via Nathan that he should be named Jedidiah (2 Samuel 12:25).
What I find odd, is that this is the only mention of this name in the entire Bible. In every other instance of God changing a name, the name God gave is the one that stuck and that person was always referred to by that name. Not so in this case.
I wonder why?

I just tried to do some online research. I couldn’t find anything saying why, but there are many websites which acknowledge that Jedidiah was supposed to be his name.
I had the exact same question!!! Weird, I actually googled solomon/jedidiah and came across your blog hoping to find an answer to why Jedidiah is never mentioned again.
I can think of one answer.
My mum runs a one-person business. A couple of years back she decided to change her stationery. You would not believe the amount of fuss required – not just designing the new logo, not just getting it printed, but coordinating the changeover, making sure no-one was confused by it, getting rid of the old stuff etc.
Now imagine trying to scale that up to a country. If I were Solomon, I think I’d have stuck with my old name too!
Good thought but the passage seems to describe the occurance as taking place at birth
Before or after the invitations had been sent out for the celebratory feast?
