The Devil made made me do it

Have you heard about this? (HT: Musicguy)

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A woman blames the devil, and not her husband, for severely burning their infant daughter in a microwave, a Texas television station reported.

Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua’s efforts to become a preacher.

“Satan saw my husband as a threat,” Eva Mauldin told Houston television station KHOU-TV.

I understand the reasoning. I don’t understand the act. I wholeheartedly believe that Satan could have tempted this man to do something that heinous. But oh my goodness. How could you do that to your baby?

Let me clarify something. Just because Satan could do that, doesn’t mean he did. And even if he did, people are still responsible for the choices that they make. If I hear voices in my head that tell me to kill kill kill, then those voices aren’t responsible for my choice to kill. I am. And I would have to pay the consequences for it.

I hope this man is locked up for a good long time.

I also hope the mom does get to keep custody of her daughter, because, in the story that we’ve been given, she did nothing wrong.

I don’t know. I actually hope the opposite – that the mother loses custody, at least until she gets her thinking cleaned up.

Think about it – she is excusing the attempted murder of her daughter, because she thinks it is really the devil’s fault. I’m a Christian, and I think that there is something wrong with that.

Give the baby to the grandparents, or another competant relative, until this woman is fit. Who’s to say that she wouldn’t blame her own bad behavior towards her child on the devil, as well?

I agree with Casey. Especially as a soon to be mother, I would not be able to excuse my husband of attempting to hurt/murder my infant child in any way. Be he tempted or not, I don’t see how she’s excusing it.

I hope he goes to jail and I hope she seeks some help in her line of thinking.

You guys are right. I wasn’t thinking about the future possibilities when I wrote that.

Darling Amanda, if you hear voices in your head telling you to kill kill kill, I suggest you seek out immediate medical attention.

Both of the parents should be locked up where they can’t hurt anyone else (or allow/excuse/condone such things in the mother’s case).

The new digs are groovy, btw.

    Kisses to you.

It was just an example, Janie dear. Although you might want to check out #10 on this meme. :) I promise, I’m not really crazy.
