In my brain, if I confess my sins and struggles then I will be less of a person/less of a Christian in the eyes of those I confess to. Is this a pride issue? Somewhat. But I just don't think I can (no, I <i>know</i> I can't) confess to my friends sins that I still struggle with <i>knowing</i> how wrong they are. It’s just not that easy. I would encourage you to begin confessing your sins and struggles, partly because it's commanded, but also because I feel that people who are able to be genuine about their struggles have a greater level of credibility than others. I really long to volunteer as well and with that I use my children as an excuse being their primary caregiver. If it's something I really want to do and know I should be doing it there is a way to be found! Also on the passage in James about confessing your sins I seldom reflect on my shortcomings and thus I tend to not even confess them to myself let along others and God. God must be so patient working on me!
