High-ranking Scientologist David Miscavige is convinced in years to come Cruise, 44, will be worshipped like Jesus all over the world as he becomes a prophet for the religion.
The worst part?
A source close to the actor is quoted by Britain’s The Sun newspaper as saying:
“Tom has been told he is Scientology’s Christ-like figure. Just like Christ, he
has been criticised for his views. But future generations will realise he was
right, just like Jesus.”
I think part of that bears repeating:
But future generations will realise he was right, just like
Jesus.
Explain to me how, if Jesus was right, anything relating to Scientology can be right?

Think Tom’s willing to pay the price of admission to the ranks of Savior?
NINTH COMMANDMENT: “Thou shalt not bear false witness.”
Hello.
I’m writing you to ask for your help. The story you ran today, based on a “report” by one of England’s worst tabloids “The Sun”, is 100% false. It is also harmful, libelous and foments incorrect notions about my religion Scientology so as to cause strife and intolerance. I need your help to set the record straight.
In actual fact, nobody within the Church of Scientology considers themselves to be “Christ-like” – this would be a very inappropriate and arrogant comment and I’m sure you can see how this is being used only to antagonize Christians everywhere.
We Scientologists appreciate Tom Cruise’s efforts as a spokesperson of many of our Church’s initiatives. But he’s just an actor, holds no rank within our Church, and is by NO MEANS a “prophet” – and I am certain he himself would be embarrassed at the thought.
The aims of Scientology are a world without war, without insanity and without criminality, a society where honest people may have rights and Man is free to rise to greater heights.
Scientology is very active in Interfaith initiatives and works actively with other religions to foment spirituality and morality in our society. It is NOT AT ALL our intention nor goal to interfere with any person’s faith, be them Christian Muslim or other.
I hope you can help me in setting the record straight. The “Sun” is lying. Please get in touch with the Church’s Media Relations department, at http://www.scientologytoday.org/Contacts/index.htm
Thank you.
Best,

Hey Greg- don’t forget a world without homosexuals too!! You can’t leave out that oearl of wisdom. You’re just as bad as the fundies, with an added shot of alien DNA.
And don’t even get me started on Tom Cruise. If ever there was a man who needed pychotropic drugs!!!
pearl. i have no idea what an oearl is. You may all take a guess though, if you’re in the mood.
Hi Amanda! Puppy slept through the last THREE nights!!! I want to get him a gold medal
Wow, Greg, you get around.
Let me say, that any prosyletizing behaviour by a top-down organization must always remain open to criticism.
Greg’s heart is in the right place, but Cruise’s insistance that he knows more than others is off-putting.
Anyone, with sheepskin or alphabets after their name is as open to criticism. What people generally find offensive is Cruise’s public admonitions ‘I’ve studied, therefore I know more than anyone else’ attitude.
Don’t take it personally, Greg… I’m a free thinkin Humanist. I give Richard Dawkins the same slap on the wrist.
Every group is open to criticism & Cruise’s supporters will have to get used to it.
THAT is the nature of debate. The LACK of debate would make us GroupThink zombies, vulnerable to ‘Knowledge by Authority’, which is EXACTLY what Scientologists claim to defy.
Can’t have it both ways, Tom.

I’m feeling slightly bemused. Is it just me or does there now appear to be more secular humanists on this blog than actual Christians? I’m reminded of that Larson cartoon with a flock of wolves in sheep’s clothing all taking their fleeces off and saying “well heck, isn’t anyone here a sheep?”
Given this, I think we should welcome Greg to the party if only because he pads out the numbers of believers on this blog
The story you ran today, based on a “report” by one of England’s worst tabloids “The Sun”, is 100% false.
As a Brit, I should mention that IMO this description of the Sun is accurate. It’s an atrocious rag, and has a history of printing completely false stories to support a political point (e.g. the “baa baa green sheep” myth) or just to sell copy. I can well imagine this story falling into that category – it’s perfect for provoking outrage on the part of the typical Sun reader.
The aims of Scientology are a world without war, without insanity and without criminality, a society where honest people may have rights and Man is free to rise to greater heights.
Nice aims. The big question is: how do you go about achieving them? How much effort do you put into ensuring that the knowledge you use to inform your decision is based in reality? For example, I’ve previously come across a concept of “body thetans”, free-floating spirits that are responsible for psychological problems. If this is indeed a scientological belief, on what evidence is it based?
Sorry to jump on you – years of arguing with Intelligent Design advocates have left me with a strong perception that when someone says “belief system X begins with Y”, they’re not telling the full story*. It’s a common tactic to make daft beliefs more palatable.
It’s also a bit unfair of me to focus on Scientology with this question – obviously it applies equally well to any belief system that includes the concept of a soul.
You guys are missing my point. I did not mean to proselytize, nor make any kind of a point pro or against Scientology.
I also did not intend to applaud nor criticize Tom Cruise’s actions.
All I wanted to point out is that NO, we do NOT think he’s Christ – and that the story was a lie.
(As are most things written about Scientology lately. Sad but true.)
Sincerely,
Greg
