Gotta love religion and the lenghths some people will go to in order to prove their religion the best. Add this to Martian’s list of the destructive forces of organized religion.

I watched “The Majestic” with Jim Carrey last night, so it’s fresh in my mind. Basically, the movie’s about Peter, a screenwriter in 1951, who is simply interested in his own career. But he falls into a river, hits his head, loses his memory, and washes up in a small town. This town has lost 60+ men and boys in the war and they mistake the screenwriter for one of the boys, Luke. He’s constantly being told how proud everyone is of him. (He won the congressional medal of honor for saving eight men with no thought of his own life.) When he regains his memory, he realizes that he never stood up for a cause because he was afraid of getting mowed down. That’s what the Van Gogh family is going through right now. Theo stood up for a cause and got mowed down by the enemy. But what else is true is that if nobody stood up against evil, it would mow everybody down. If enough people stand up against evil, it may involve death and bloodshed, but the rest of the people will be safe. I admire the Van Gogh family for their perseverance and courage. May God give them protection and peace.

Musicguy, organized religion isn’t a destructive force. People using religion as an excuse is.
