WMD?

The timing of some things is absolutely uncanny. I read on One Hand Clapping today some opinions on the war and WMD. He quoted Polipundit, today:

Look, we could have video of Saddam examining bunkers full of WMD, neatly labeled in English, with a huge map in the background with U.S. targets brightly circled using Saddam’s blood as ink and those on the Left not believe it. We could produce the map with his DNA on it and they would argue that the evidence was obtained without a warrant and therefore should not be considered, and would then argue that Bush still lied. The arguments made by Demcrats over the past few years have had NOTHING to do with facts so I don’t know if ANYTHING could ever convince them.

He also quoted himself from last May saying virtually the same thing, as well as some other folks who agree.

The scary thing is, last night I was talking about this with one of my friends. He’s a former marine who ran into an old marine buddy on Tuesday night. The buddy has been in Iraq twice now, and claims to have pictures that prove that WMD were actually found. He claims that after some investigations, we have found that they were given by the French government and that if we were to announce that, we would probably lose an ally and gain an enemy with France.

This certainly gives one reason to think.

  1. France is hardly an friend to the U.S. in this war and I would think that if we have indeed found wmd, which i don’t believe for one second, then Bush would be politicaly idiotic to hide that fact in order to protect our already strained relations with france. that reasoning makes no sense to me.

i think many people believed iraq had wmd, but the problem is that there’s only one with the power to wage the war and if the reasoning for the war was false, then that person alone should take the responsibility for the failure.

Being the president is not easy and it’s always easy to look back and second guess. But there has been a massive failure by the Bush administration to accept the fact that their rationale for war was totally not justified in the end and this whole effort could have been avoided.

  2. Thanks for the comment! I definitely think Iraq had (maybe still has) WMD. As to whether or not our government has ever had physical proof of that…I don’t know. Bush has definitely made mistakes in his administration, there’s no denying that, but show me a single Presidential administration that hasn’t.

  3. I think we do know for a fact that our government does not have proof of any kind that Iraq had or has WMD since operation desert storm. If they had that proof, then it would be required that Americans be informed.

Also, I never suggested that Bush is the only President to make a mistake. But he is the only president that has waged preemptive military operations for reasoning that turned out to be false. Am I wrong?

  4. Ok, you’re right. His reasoning was off. But I certainly don’t regret that this war has started. I think a lot of people over there have been helped and are grateful for our help. Do we hear about that on the news? Of course not. Our media is biased and has their own agenda (as everyone has been able to see around the recent Shotgungate).

  5. would you feel the same way if you just found out you were being deployed to the region?

i think your right to some extent. I think they have been helped and hurt in the process. Many innocent people were killed or injured during the invasion. The treatment of prisoners has been terrible. The economy is now worse than it was before the war. many still don’t have electricty.

on the flip side, personal freedoms, education, the arts have all been improved dramatically.

But, the problem with all of this is that we didn’t invade iraq to make the lives of Iraqis better. We went into war to help keep the U.S. safer. Many would argue that not only are we not safer, but in more danger due to the war.

  6. It is becoming obvious to me that the excuse for the war, and the “reasons” are two different things.
He had to give us a fear based reason so we would tend to go along. It becomes clear now that the pipeline Unocal is putting in had to be secured by our presence in the area. It relates to money and energy.
As for the WMD, I think they were there and were tranfered to Syria before the attack. People talked about that prior to the war, but not since. I wonder why?
